Dear campus community,
Today’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to block the Trump Administration’s order to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is a welcome victory for our campus and our community. Earlier this week, the Court also upheld that anti-discrimination laws apply to the LGBTQ community and declined to hear a challenge to California’s sanctuary law.
These positive outcomes are welcome news in a time of tragedy and turmoil. However, while today’s Supreme Court action is important, we know that our work is not finished. Today’s decision does not protect the DACA program from future challenges. San Francisco State University joins with the California State University as a whole in encouraging Congress to take action that leads to a lasting solution that protects Dreamers on our campuses and across the nation.
Our Dream Resource Center remains steadfast in its support of our DACA students and other undocumented members of our campus family.
In solidarity,
Beth Hellwig, Ph.D., Interim Vice President, Student Affairs & Enrollment Management
